QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT THE TRINITY FOUNDATION |
|
What is a Church Foundation? Like any non-profit organization, a Church has daily and long-term financial needs. Simply put, our Church’s annual budget addresses current needs. In contrast, the Foundation helps raise and maintain a permanent source of funds to perpetuate our Church values and long-term goals.
Our Church formed the Foundation in 1979 to promote and raise permanent funds of the Church. Because the Foundation’s funds are permanent, only the earnings from fixed the fixed income portion of the portifolo are distributed for actual use. Currently, the earnings from the Foundation are used only for maintenance and upkeep of the church property. The Foundation prudently invests the funds with professional advisors. Our Foundation is a legally incorporated entity under section 501 © (3) of the IRS Code, and has a separate Board of Trustees from our Church to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
|
What is the purpose of the Foundation? The Foundation receives funds given to the church through wills, estates, honorariums, and memorials. The Foundation maintains stewardship of these funds and works in conjunction with financial advisors over the best investments for the funds. The earnings from the Foundation are distributed to the church each year for the purpose of maintaining and expanding the church property.

How do I make a donation to the Trinity Foundation? individuals may make contributions to the Trinity Foundation in a variety of ways.
- Individual gifts may be directed to the Foundation by sending a check made payable to Trinity United Methodist Church, with a notation of Foundation in the memo section.
- Honorariums or memorials for individuals are also directed to the Trinity Foundation unless specified by either donor or individual/family receiving the recognition.
- You may also support the Trinity Foundation through bequests in Wills, Real Estate, Retirement Plans, Annuities, Life Insurance, Trusts and Estates, or Appreciated Assets.
|
What size gift is appropriate for the Foundation? There is no minimum dollar amount. Gifts of any size are important and appreciated. Church Foundations often receive gifts between $5 and $100 through memorials and honorariums, however, the Foundation also needs major gifts to fulfill its mission of providing a secure source of significant funds to advance Christ’s church. In addition, guidelines have been established for the Foundation to be able to receive donations of non-cash gifts, such as real estate, securities, trusts, bequests, and life insurance beneficiary designations.

|
Should someone include the Foundation in his or her will? How someone gives depends on his or her goals. If the donor wishes the gift to be used for current or capital needs of Trinity United Methodist Church, then the gift should be given directly to the church. If the donor prefers that the gift produces a perpetual benefit, then the gift should be directed towards the Foundation.
We do encourage all members to prayerfully consider including Trinity United Methodist Church in their estate plans.
