Welcoming the Future
Our History and Vision
Where there is no vision, the people perish. Proverbs 29:18
The founders of this great church had a vision from Christ Jesus of a mission to this community and to the world, and it is a vision for which they sacrificed mightily. In 2003 Trinity United Methodist Church celebrated its 50th anniversary and set its sights on the future. As the benefactors of our founders’ foresight and faithfulness, we are bound with them and all the saints of Christian history to pass on the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. You are invited to share in that history of faithful service through our Welcoming the Future campaign. We ask you to pray about how you might make a difference in fulfilling this vision, one that will only be accomplished by the blessing and providence of God and the full participation of all of our members.
Our Future
The congregation of Trinity is already answering the call of the Welcoming the Future capital campaign. We have already raised over $2.4 million toward the goals set when we began in the spring of 2006. We encourage all of our members to join those who have put their shoulder to the wheel in support of the Welcoming the Future campaign through sacrificial giving. In doing so, we welcome a future that leads to fruitful and spiritual growth.
Our capital campaign is more than building new facilities. It is about people and greater opportunities for ministry. While we are always continuing to improve our physical environment to promote Christian learning and proper fa-cilities for all ages, the Welcoming the Future campaign is specifically targeting debt retirement to free up capital for greater ministry, and to the improvement of our facilities to better serve infants, small children, youth and music ministries.
We invite you to talk with our pastoral staff about this path to excellence in ministry that we have been following. It is our prayer that you will support this program in whatever way God leads you. If you have any comments or questions about our Welcoming the Future capital campaign, please feel free to call Rev. Todd Jordan at 892-8121, x113 |

Welcoming the Future Questions and Answers
In 2004, Trinity recognized that we had an urgent need for a new roof on our building. The cost of repairing leaks and the damage done by the leaks was becoming a continual challenge. The church voted to re-roof the entire facility. To ensure that the new roof would protect the facility for years to come, we chose to place a copper roof over the building. This new roof will allow thousands of people in many years to come to worship God and develop a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
In order to pay for this roof and to add to our facilities we have opted to enter into a capital campaign. Below are some questions and answers regarding this program. We hope that you will find the information enlightening and useful as you consider how you can support the future of Christ’s church.
1) How much is the roof debt?
We borrowed $875,000 to pay for the new roof. To pay off this debt over time would cost the church $70,752 per year over the next 20 years. On account of the capital campaign, we are currently paying $44,045.10 per month. At this rate we will pay the roof note off entirely by April 2008. The elimination of this debt obligation will permit those debt dollars to be used as ministry dollars.
2) What are the plans for other facility improvements and expansion? Architectural design estimates for making the facility improvements and expansions described below are projected to be $1,525,000.
a) New Nursery
The current nursery is well kept but small and does not meet all of our current needs for childcare. There are both security and spatial needs that need to be addressed for our church to provide the best childcare possible in an attractive environment. First impressions are very important to young parents who are visiting Trinity.
b) New Playground
A new playground will provide a safe and creative environment adjacent to the buildings which house children’s Sunday School and Weekday Ministries. It will have decorative security fencing and modern play equipment and be located on the Longfellow Street side of church campus.
c) Improved Youth Environment
In order to maintain and grow our youth program we must enhance the areas of the Youth Center, adjacent spaces, equipment, and furniture so that the youth environment will be appealing and inviting. Christian discipleship and programs are our goal and unattractive and out-dated spaces can be a significant hindrance in today’s youth culture.
3) How did we arrive at these projects and what is the cost?
The proposed projects were selected after many hours of study over the past two years by the Trustees, other selected committees, and the 50-year Celebration Committee. Further, a church-wide In-Focus Workshop was conducted in the spring of 2005 to get congregational input. After several meetings with the design team, we concluded that the cost of projects described above total $2,400,000. Our Capital Funds goal is $2,400,000.
4) When do we make our pledge?
You can make your pledge right now by completing the enclosed Welcoming the Future pledge card.
5) How long is my commitment and when will it begin?
We began this 3-year journey of commitment and faith on March 16, 2006. We will complete this journey in March 2009.
6) How will I know what to give?
The answer is between you and God. We are asking you to be open to the journey of prayer, faith, and sacrifice when it comes to your gift. The underlying theme of our campaign is not equal giving, but equal sacrifice.
